Parks, Lakes & Our Great Outdoors

More than 20 parks, a half-dozen lakes, awesome beaches, a great range of hiking trails, golfing and cycling are just some of the ways to enjoy the spectacular outdoors of Lake Country.

Check out the Parks Guide to plan the best way to enjoy the sparkling, clear waters of Okanagan, Kalamalka or Wood lakes. In the eastern hills are a handful of deep clear mountain lakes like the one at Beaver Lake Mountain Resort --- together, these lakes offer endless opportunities for water skiing, jet skiing, tubing, sailing, wake boarding, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Check out the Lake Country Board & Ski Club for information about summer programs.

A quiet treasure is the Winfield Creek Wildlife Preserve. nine acres founded in order to incubate Kokanee salmon in the creek. It now contains trails and lots of wildlife, mainly 40 or 50 species of birds. Parking spaces are available just inside the gate, with access from Bottom Wood Lake Road, just north of the Lodge Rd crossing.

WALC (Walk Around Lake Country) has, over the years, created more than a dozen local walking trails. Ask for a Lake Country Community Guide at a local Visitor Centre or store.

Serious hikers and backpackers can check out the Lake Country portion of the High Rim Trail that runs along the east side of the Okanagan Valley from Vernon to Kelowna. The trail begins in Kalmalka Lake Park, passes Oyama Lake and through Wrinkley Face Provincial Park near Lake Country, and finishes at Mission Creek and Highway 33 in Kelowna. There are camping spots along the trail, but with 5 or 6 access points (one of them off Beaver Lake Road) it can easily be hiked in stages.

Lake Country Cycle takes care of the needs of local cyclists, and Aspen Grove Golf course is a classy nine-hole executive course with full service clubhouse. Several championship courses are within a short drive in Vernon or Kelowna, including Predator Ridge which is located just on our northern doorstep. You might also try horseback riding at the County Down Equestrian Centre.

If winter sports are your pleasure, Lake Country offers snowmobiling and cross country skiing trails, ice fishing, ice skating and curling. We are also strategically located between the world renowned ski resorts of Big White and Silver Star Mountain.
